Check this great beat and find out about one of the most underrated producers, D.K. The Punisher

I don’t know who dkthepunisher is but I clearly should and so should you if you don’t already because when you go on his soundcloud page and see his credits the resume list is ridiculous!!! He includes this as a quick credit list “prod. for Justin Bieber, Jill Scott, Mac Miller, Dom Kennedy, SiR, Anderson .Paak, Isaiah Rashad, Tiffany Gouche, Boogie, Snow tha Product, OCD: Moosh & Twist, TiRon & Ayomari, etc.”

Well aight then fuhhh.

And he isn’t one of those producers whose credit list is suspect, a quick search on genius.com confirms his credit list;

DKTHE.PNG

The only reason I found him was because I was on Soundcloud earlier working on something and listening to tracks when a beat by him popped up. The beat admittedly is  not my normal steez nowadays, the beat feels very much like something I could hear tyler the creator, joell ortiz, or mac miller on. . But this beat is just so fire and inspired me to do a little bit of writing so seriously check out the beat below!

Interview + 5 beats with Prod. Cecil

Prod.Cecil is a producer I found on YouTube and I keep seeing his name around. He is prolific, with at least 220 beat videos on his page, and his stats are impressive, 5K+ subscribers and 870k+ views.  His most viewed video is a Playboi Carti type beat video that currently sits at 230K views;
So I reached out and after awhile he got back to me with his answers. You can find out more about this producer plus check out his beats below.
BEATPACKS
Major credits? (artist/song)
CookLaFlare – Fighter Jet ft. Lil Yachty
C Roy – Don’t Go ft. 909 Memphis (Prod. Og Abi and me)
909Memphis – So Mean (Prod. OG Abi and me)
And I got some more coming soon.
How old are you?  I’m currently 19 years old.
Where are you from? I live in Portugal. I’ll probably visit the US frequently in the future to work with some producers and artists over there.
How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it? I started producing around 4 years ago. But I didn’t took it serious for like the first year.
What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Probably the positive feedback and that a lot of my friends that I know through music are starting to really build a name for themselves. We all knew eachother since we had like 100-200 followers on Soundcloud and now we are all starting to grow.
Who are your biggest influences? There are too many to count. I listen to a lot of different types of music. Almost everything from Trap to Jazz to Alternative Rock. And I found a lot of the artists and music I listen to on YouTube while searching for samples lol. I also get inspired by the beats and music my friends make.
Want to give any shoutouts? Shoutout to my bro Nixon, shoutout to Og Abi, Dollie, Alto and SurrealGang, Bricks, and everybody else that fw me.
What is something about you people would be surprised to know? Maybe that I live in Europe and not in the US.
Whats your process for making a beat? I usally start with the melody or a sample and then I add some drums. I mix my beats whenever I feel like they’re done or when adding more would be too much.
What do your beats normally cost? My leases start at $25 at the moment, and my exclusive rights start at around $200.
What is the most you have made from one beat? The most I’ve made from one beat was with a sync lease that I’ve sold. I won’t go into too much detail but I made more from that one lease then I would with selling a few exclusives.
Any stories on how you got some of your placements?  Artists that use my beats usually find them on Soundcloud or YouTube but I also send out beats from time to time.
What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use? I use FL Studio 12 and KRK Rokit 5 studio monitors. They are pretty good but I plan on buying a new pair of studio monitors soon.
How many leases or beats do you think you sold in 2017? I’m not exactly sure how many but it was a good year for me.
What are your plans for 2018? Just growing as a person, as a producer, networking, and being as successful as I can be in everything I do.
Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise) Producer wise every producer that I mentioned earlier but also just those who work hard and deserve it. I think if you really love what you’re doing, you’ll succeed if you stay consistent and never give up.

Interview with producer BearMakeHits

You know for someone so new to the production game, you wouldn’t expect BearMakeHits to be getting the type of views on YouTube that he does. I mean I know producers with way more subscribers getting less views on there videos than this kid is. I cant find one video of his with less than 1K views, and he even has a video that already has 137K views. Clearly he has talent and is learning from the others in the production crew “Fly Way”.

Check out some of his beats and find out more about this producer on the rise by scrolling down!

Major credits? Lil Webbie, BossMan JD, Whop Bezzy

Songs haven’t been released yet but I know I got those placements for sure. Probably got more out there I don’t know about lol

How old are you?  18 years old

Where are you from?  I’m from Flint, MI born and raised.

How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it? I just really got into producing last year, I always been into music but at first I would only record and mix songs I never really thought about making beats.

What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Has to be the placements. Like I said I haven’t been producing that long but something new happens everyday.

Who are your biggest influences?  Zaytoven, Metro Boomin & Ness

Want to give any shoutouts? Yea shoutout to the whole FlyWay, them my boys 💪🏾

(illWill, Yung Tago, Nebula Beatz, TreOnTheBeat, TnTxd, Yung Lando, MikeD & Nique Buzzin)

What is something about you people would be surprised to know?

I dropped out of college 2 weeks in to chase my music career.

What is the best platform for selling your beats? why? Most of my sales come from YouTube or my website, BearMakeHits.com but I get a lot of sales through my email too. YouTube generates a lot of traffic to my website.

Whats your process for making a beat? Usually I just go to the studio and vibe out. I play around with different aliens then I come up with a melody and build around that. A lot of beats that I’ve made the most money off of only took me about 15-25 minutes.

What do your beats normally cost?

  • $30 for a MP3 lease
  • $50 for a wav lease
  • $150 for Trackout Lease
  • $300 for Unlimited Lease

And my exclusive rights are negotiable.

What is the most you have made from one beat? Only $1000 but prices going up soon lol

Any stories on how you got some of your placements? My first placement with Whop Bezzy happened when his manager emailed me, he got my email and the beat from YouTube, Same with the webbie placement. My boy illWill plugged me with BossMan JD.

What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use? I use Pro Tools to mix and master and FL Studio to produce. I got into pro tools when I didn’t know nothing about music I was about 11 I downloaded a cracked version and started playing with it.

I have Yamaha speakers & UAD Apollo Twin interface.

What are your plans for 2018? I want to hit 25,000 subs by the end of this year and to just keep expanding and getting better everyday. I see the growth in myself.

Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise) FlyWay for sure lol

“Work Hard, Money Will Follow” Interview with A2RBEATZ

A2RBEATZ might not be a household name YET but I just listened to the song “with my team” by creek boyz that he produced and holy ish that beat (and the song too) is something extraordinary. I’m going to get on my trap sommelier steez real quick and describe the beat to you…

To me it sounds to me like it has some tropical notes but really the best way to describe it, is to say it sounds like a happy but dark beat made for Lil Yachty by Pi’erre Bourne on an angry day. Or if Lil Yachty heard the bank account instrumental and he called up 21 Savage and was like “yo whip something up for me”. And this doesn’t just seem to be a fluke, throughout the article I have included some more instrumentals of his available on YouTube that really show the sound I am talking about that I hear in his music.

How old are you? 24

Where are you from? UK

Major Credits? (artist/song)

  • 67 – London,UK Group – “Thats Us” and “Anywhere”.
  • Harlem Spartans – London,UK Group – “3000 Savage.
  • Creek Boyz – With My Team.
  • I guess I would add Lil Yachty to the credits since he’s featured on the Creek Boyz –With My Team (Remix) [feat. Lil Yachty] [Explicit], which is out on all Digital stores and platforms now.

How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it? I have been producing for 4 years, I was a video director with my brother before so we always had a passion for music. I use to go to local studios an while artists were making tracks I use to watch the producers but the producers use to guard their work so I couldn’t see what they were doing and learn from it. So a couple of years later I started to search softwares to use, I came across reason first but I couldn’t get to grips with using it. Fast forward a couple of months I found  FL Studio and i’ve been with it ever since.

What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product?

At the start I obviously wasn’t as good as I am now at making beats because I have had a couple of years to perfect my style. But I always remember the first times artists used my beats that was the best feeling because something I’ve made in my bedroom and its came directly from my head, people can vibe to it and get a feel for the music I’m making. I got the courage and motivation to make it my full time job.

But recently the biggest thing to happen is I got signed a deal with Sony/ATV and met my manager birdman zoe from New York for the first time. That was one of the best days of my life, knowing a major label has spotted my potential and now it feels more real from being branded a bedroom producer. If I can do it everyone can.

Who are your biggest influences?

My Biggest Influencers are Kayne West, Jay Z, Dr Dre and 50 Cent, I say them because they have made a big impact on the industry which cant go unoticed, it proves hard work and dedication will always pay off and dreams will become reality if you continue to work hard.

Want to give any shoutouts?

Firstly, S/O to my twin brother for supporting since day one, pushing and believing in my music. S/O my manager Birdman718_zoe, My Lawyer Navarroe and Juan, all have helped my brand grow further.

What is something about you people would be surprised to know?

America Artists are mostly surprised when they find out I’m from the UK, even UK artists have spoke to me with the American Lingo but when I tell them I am also from the UK they cant believe it, its quite funny to be honest.

Whats your process for making a beat?

I would normally start with the melody first then build the drums around. I have my own style with how I create though so I cant really give to much away because I have my own secret recipe. A bit of advice to up coming producers stay away from samples as you want to create your own feel, it becomes more of an achievement.

What do your beats normally cost?

Exclusive beats are negotiated through my manager Birdman Zoe, but I do lease beats you can find them on my website www.A2RBEATZ.COM

What is the most you have made from one beat?

I’m not one to discuss figures on how much I have made from a beat its more about my passion that ive got for music. I seen a quote from my lawyer Navaro it said “Work Hard, Money Will Follow”.

Any story or stories on how you secured some of your placements?

I release my beats on youtube, this is how I secured “Creek Boyz-With My Team”, they came across the beat and downloaded it, it was that simple. But we went on to build a relationship. But hopefully 2018 goes well and I will have more stories on this topic for you.

How many leases or beats do you think you sold in 2017?

2017 was a good year for me, music really picked up, but like I said previously I would like to keep this kind of information to myself.

what are your plans for 2018?

To get my VISA to fly out to the US and get into the studios, continue to build relationships/network, establish my brand further.

Im looking to develop artists with my sound and create new waves. Secure more placements, get a billboard charting hit and become a gold/platinum selling producer.

Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise)

Can never be sure on that, you never know whos next in this industry, personally i think there’s space for everyone who works hard.

FL Studio VS Ableton & Logic Pro

First off let me tell you this right now, I am not a producer myself. But what I am is a writer and sometimes rapper, whose main project for the last 10 months is this very blog that you are reading this post on. If you aren’t familiar with this blog it is a hip hop/rap blog that tends to focus on hip hop production. It’s like any other blog that focuses on hip hop/rap but instead of having my main focus on rappers, I focus more on producers. I do this by highlighting lesser known producers with amazing beats and then also interviewing producers who are making a brand out of their name by racking up millions of views on YouTube and/or by having produced tracks for notable rappers.

Fl Studio’s popularity and ease of use:

In the 10 months this blog has been around, I have interviewed over 60 producers that span the hip hop world in terms of genre and location, and one of the things I have learned is that the overwhelming majority say that they use FL Studio. The following is just a quick example of just 3 of the notable producers that use FL Studio that I have personally interviewed;

  • Birdie Bands – 12.7 Million views on YouTube | prod. for Trill Sammy, Ski Mask, Wiz Khalifa and more.
  • TreOnTheBeat – 2.6 million views on YouTube | prod. for Tee Grizzley, Famous Dex, DDG, and more.
  • Godlikepariah – 3.2 million views on YouTube | prod. for Lil Yachty, Matt Ox, Comethazine and more.

Taken from the wikipedia page for Fl Studio here is an example of more producers that rep Fl Gang

metro1.PNG

One of the reasons I think it has such an overwhelming popularity is because it seems to have the easiest learning curve compared to the other production software’s. This is something to keep in mind when wondering what production software to buy.  And if you buy FL Studio, you will have a lot of information available to you on how to use it because of the wealth of tutorials available on YouTube.

The amount of tutorials on YouTube for Fl Studio compared to the other DAW’s isn’t even a close race;

  • FL Studio – 1,900,000 results
  • Logic Pro – 1, 370,000 results
  • Ableton  – 1, 100,000 results

Speaking of tutorials, in the interview with TreOnTheBeat when asked “how long he’s been producing?” he replied

I’ve been producing for 4-5 years. After I seen Lex Luger’s “Secret Formula” video on YouTube in 2012, I immediately downloaded FL Studio and started using it. Shortly after that I sold my first exclusive beat on SoundCloud for $15.

All I am saying is, if you want to make beats. Get FL Studio today! and start watching tutorials!

Pittsburgh producer, C. Scott releases an impressive 20 tracks deep beat tape on soundcloud.

How I became aware of this artist: C. Scott is a producer who recently emailed me a submission of his music so please artists be aware I am taking submissions!!

My thoughts on his work: When I listen to this tape I am heavily reminded of Ant (the producer half of Atmosphere). Don’t come into this beat tape expecting any new school mainstream shit. But if you are looking for beats that are any of the following; old school, east coast, indie, alternative, sampled; then this is the tape for you!

Notes:  This is how a beat tape should be.

For the producers out there please pay attention to what C. Scott has done here:

  1. There are no tags on any of these beats.
  2. Each beat goes to the overall vibe of the tape. Each beat that comes after the one you were just listening 2, sounds like it should be the next beat playing.
  3. Each beat stands alone.

For the rappers out there:

Enjoy this solid meal of 20 instrumentals that will keep you satisfied for awwwhile!

Check out this dope instrumental that sounds like 80’s synth pop

So I am checking my emails this morning before I go to work and theres this producer who hit me up called NoWairMan. He’s got an interesting backstory so I decided to check out his soundcloud, I haven’t gotten pass the second beat. Not because he’s bad. but because I have quickly become enamored with this beat “feel good hip hop”.

The producer NoWairMan in the description of the beat describes it as being akin to Paperboy’s ditty or Cam’ron Hey Ma. Naw I think this beat is akin to like Talking Heads circa the 80s or Arcade Fire’s creature comfort but still hip hop.
