BenihanaBoiBeats is a producer I found while searching for beats on YouTube last week. At first I was curious about his name and the fact that I saw that the video youtube was recommending had over 200K views so I wanted to see what other kind of numbers this producer is putting up. What I found was;
Clearly people are liking his work. I mean look at the views his beat videos have done alone in the last month
After examining his page looking at his numbers, listening to his beats, I went to his about page and found out homie is from Russia. And maybe its because I am half russian or maybe its because the awesome experience I had interviewing Highself aka Mosthighkid, but I wanted to show love to another russian producer. So I reached out and me and Benihana had a quick chat over email.
What I found out was that Benihana is a humble dude, if you ask him he will say he doesn’t really have any major credits. But that’s not true, dude has been putting in work, producing for artists from the U.S. like King Lil G all the way to French rap star Django. In fact he produced the beat for the video below that has 22 Million views.
*Editors note: Mosthighkid also produced for Django. So now that’s two russian producers that this french rapper has used the beats of… I find that curious for some reason.
To find out more about BenihanaBoiBeats keep scrolling down to read the interview, listen to some of the songs he has produced, and you can check out some beats he still has for sale.

How old are you? 23
Where are you from? Born in North Jersey, but I was raised in Philadelphia PA.
What do you mean when you say your a content designer? I never really identified myself as one single entity. While my passion lies in producing and making beats, I also have a great interest in visual fx, visual media, photography and animation. So my focus is not just creating music, but anything that can help a fellow producer reach there visual peek. So I label myself a content designer, because I offer a wide variety of production services.
What is the best platform or way to sell beats in your opinion? and why? Honestly the best thing that’s been working for me lately is Instagram. Most my sales come from organic interaction with artist and producers who are serious about their craft. Other sites I’ve sold beats off are Twitter, Facebook, Soundcloud, and YouTube. YouTube is probably the most important just because it is the most popular video application out there at the moment. But instagram is the new wave as of late.
How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it? I have been producing and making music since I was 14. I learned guitar when I was 7 and never really recorded anything until I was 14. I discovered music recording and fruity loops and ever since then I’ve never stopped. I started taking myself serious about 2 years ago when I really set my goals and wanted to sell my music. My dads definitely my biggest influence and contributor to why I love makings music.
What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? I think it’s the confidence that I’ve built since when I first started. Every producer goes through that phase where they don’t know if their music will ever be or if it is good enough to sell. After I sold my first beat I knew this would be something I would not let go of easily.
Who are your biggest influences? Some of my biggest influences have to be Tupac, Carlos Santana, Drake, and Immortal Technique. I also loved Common and his positive messages.
Want to give any shoutouts? Honestly shout out to anyone who listens and supports my music. I really would not be where I am if my music isn’t being listened to.
What is something about you people would be surprised to know? My close friends know this but many people don’t know that I am about to graduate in May with a B.A. in Media Studies and Production from Temple University. Audio Production! I’ve always believed an education is important!
why do you think there are so few female producers? I think it’s because hip hop historically has been predominantly male. This is the age of equality. More and more female producers are realizing their full potential and using all the resources available to them to compete with other producers. It doesn’t matter at all what your gender is, what matters is if your music is fire or not.
Do you have any advice for any aspiring producers? Stay consistent. There are going to be days you’ll want to give up or tell yourself music isn’t for you. But if you are 100% invested into making something with your music, you’ll do the research and take the time to create a proper brand and identity. You don’t have to be famous to make money off your music. Also, offer any other skills you have as services, you never know when someone might need your knowledge.
Whats your process for making a beat? I usually start with the chords and melody. Once I know what kind of vibe the melody is giving me, Ill formulate the drums around it. A good 808 is a must and really adds depth to a beat.If Im not feeling the beat after the first 30 minutes or I can’t keep it on replay, than I have failed as a producer.
What do your beats normally cost? They range from 25-300 USD depending on what deal you get.
What is the most you have made from one beat? 300
Any stories on how you got some of your placements? Most of my placements come from organic marketing and promotion. People contact me if they want to purchase something or want to negotiate a deal.
What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use? Fruity Loops all day.
How many leases or beats do you think you sold in 2017? 48
what are your plans for 2018? This year I am focused on building a fan base and building relationships with more notable artists. I want to get my music streaming more. Most importantly, I want people to see my journey and inspire people to be the best they can be. Positivity is the message for 2018.
Do you receive royalties from any of your beats? Can you give an example with actual numbers? No royalties, I have only only sold services, exclusives rights, and lease agreements. Currently working with some artist that have a following on spotify, tidal, and apple music.
What does youtube monetization look like for you? can you give an example of what you might have earned off of at least one of your beat videos? (views/earnings) I have had over 50,000 views on one of my videos but never really made anything off of it. My focus this year is to grow my YouTube.
I found ReeseyGotIt first on IG then looked into his work and had to reach out for an interview!
