Flip one of these samples and make 25

I am promoting and advertising this contest, so a lot of you reading this might not know who I am or what I do with curatedflame.com.

  • CuratedFlame aims to be a site that is known as a resource, a resource for rap fans looking for the next artist to listen 2 and in fact I was the first site to interview and write about rappers such as Icy Narco, GlokkNine, Hooligan Chase, and ILoveFriday, to name a few.
  • And a resource for the up and coming producers and rappers. I have interviewed over 125 hip hop producers and I have written many articles geared towards helping producers and rappers with their craft.

I am looking to take CuratedFlame to the next level and one of the things I want to do is release a beat tape. A beat tape that features multiple producers and features beats that are unique. So for the next several weeks I plan on hosting a few contests and this is the first one.
So here’s all the info:

How you enter

  1. For this week, choose 1, 2, or 3 samples.

2. Take the sample and flip it into a new beat that is at MINIMUM 2 minutes long.

3. Send me the Mp3 to abrabinent@gmail.com by Friday at Midnight, the producers with the best flip for each sample will be picked Sunday.

There are 3 samples available and hopefully there will be 3 winners but like I said, you can enter a beat flip for all of the samples if you want, and you could potentially earn the cash prize for each one.

What you win if beat is chosen

  • $25 (PayPal, Cashapp, or Amazon)
  • Free CuratedFlame Email Pack
  • Interview with CuratedFlame
  • Your beat featured on the curated flame beat tape.
  • 50% of any YouTube or Streaming earnings.

FL 20 is out and here is what some producers are saying.

I might be a little late to the game but yeah FL 20 is finally out and the crazy part everyone’s flipping over is that it is now available for MAC. Which is going to completely change the game and help FL Studio continue to grow its overwhelming share of the marketplace.

Here is what I have been seeing online and on my IG about what producers are saying about FL 20;

Do you have any thoughts? Don’t hesitate to comment!

Interview + beats with CJonesBeats

CJonesBeats, falls into that category of producers, like Deadman and Lil Szn. People I have interviewed and showcased the beats of way before they got any serious placements or cracked 1k subscribers on YouTube.

I think it already is, but just in case it isn’t, I have to make it be known that I am not a producer. This site is not run by a producer.

  1. I am someone who loves hip hop / rap music and for over a decade (I’m 24) I have been what you would call a “bedroom rapper”. Which in my opinion is this:
  • I write lyrics a lot
  • I am looking for beats all the time
  • I sporadically record tracks
  • and I sporadically release something.

2. I went to school for entertainment management and I have always had an eye and ear for trends and good music in general.

Why I am saying this is because maybe it will help you understand why I select the producers I do. Including CJONES, his beats seem like they would be highly favored by a lot of the rappers looking for beats on YouTube. I think he will be like Lil Szn, who I found at less than a 100 subscribers in late September of last year and who is now at 1,059.

Interview and more with producer BenihanaBoiBeats

BenihanaBoiBeats is a producer I found while searching for beats on YouTube last week. At first I was curious about his name and the fact that I saw that the video youtube was recommending had over 200K views so I wanted to see what other kind of numbers this producer is putting up. What I found was;

  • He has 3.77 Million combined views on YouTube.
  • 10 videos with 100K or more views.
  • And over 24K subscribers.

Clearly people are liking his work. I mean look at the views his beat videos have done alone in the last month

After examining his page looking at his numbers, listening to his beats, I went to his about page and found out homie is from Russia. And maybe its because I am half russian or maybe its because the awesome experience I had interviewing Highself aka Mosthighkid, but I wanted to show love to another russian producer. So I reached out and me and Benihana had a quick chat over email.

What I found out was that Benihana is a humble dude, if you ask him he will say he doesn’t really have any major credits. But that’s not true, dude has been putting in work, producing for artists from the U.S. like King Lil G all the way to French rap star Django. In fact he produced the beat for the video below that has 22 Million views.

*Editors note: Mosthighkid also produced for Django. So now that’s two russian producers that this french rapper has used the beats of… I find that curious for some reason.

To find out more about BenihanaBoiBeats keep scrolling down to read the interview, listen to some of the songs he has produced, and you can check out some beats he still has for sale.

Major credits?

  1. King lil g – consequences
  2. Django- Fichu
  3. Flesh – Tokyo drift

Where are you from? Russia, but I’m pretty sure next year I’ll be in LA

How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it? Started producing when I was 14, but take it seriously just for 2 years.

What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Waking up and counting guap.

Anything crazy or awesome happen so far in your producing career? Craziest thing is that I’ve worked for CALVIN Klein’s commercial, that was really unexpected for me. They really used one of my beats in their video.

Damnnn. How much you make from that? $500

Who are your biggest influences? Three 6 mafia, Kanye West (808’ & heartbreak, yeezus), Travis Scott.

Want to give any shoutouts? Shout out to my mom and my girl.

What is something about you people would be surprised to know? After I ate shrooms in Thailand I always get a panic attack when I smoke weed. So now I don’t do drugs, at all. Lol

Whats your process for making a beat? I don’t know bro. I’m just trying to get inspired by everything: videos, sounds, pictures, feelings. I’m just trying to catch a right vibe.

What do your beats normally cost? 20$~500$

What is the most you have made from one beat? Around 1500$

What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use? Fl gang. I just like it.

What are your plans for 2018? All the way up. Most important goals: make a 100k in 2018 and move to US.

Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise) I just accidentally found one guy on YouTube and I was really impressed. His name is OHNO, I think he’s got a good perspective.

Who are some russian rappers and producers you think need more world wide exposure? I don’t fuck with Russian music at all.

Do you receive royalties from any of your beats? Can you give an example with actual numbers? I don’t got any major placements, so I don’t got royalties.

What does youtube monetization look like for you can you give number examples? From 1 million views on YouTube I got around 800$.

Interview with Messiah Beatz

Interview conducted by kaleb / @musicofcarolina

Edited and intro written by @nicejewboy

Messiah Beatz is a producer out of Jamaica who doesn’t let distance prevent him for producing for a score of the notable names on the underground rap scene. Right now, his claim to fame is being one of the go to producers for Yung Bans but he’s done a lot more then that and is well on his way to making himself a household name in the industry.

Check out some of his beats, some of his productions, and find out more about this rising producer by scrolling down.

-Where does the name Messiah Beatz come from? Well, It’s a funny story lol, my psn for playstation used to be @bvse_messiah and you know, added shit up and bam.

-What’s it like producing records for American rap artists being from Kingston, Jamaica? Man, It’s crazy as fuck, people out here be surprised lol like It’s the craziest thing and when artists hear that’s where I’m from they always like “Woww”, it’s just wild.

-Where are you currently located? Jamaica at the moment, rotating between Montego Bay & Kingston.

-What’s it like producing for some familiar names in the underground U.S. rap scene at the age of just 15? Well, now I’m turning 17 but at 15, it was shocking. I was literally shook at my first placement which was with Glo Gang (Ballout). I just felt like this was a new beginning.

-How’d you learn piano at 5 years old? My mama loves music and shit so she basically forced me to learn it lmao, no cap. She kept me till I was like 14 in it.

-You have a 39-song playlist on your SoundCloud entitled “Dancehall.” There’s a lot of money in it, of course. Do you plan on producing these tracks at some point in your career? Yall could see that?? Man *laughs* I swore I had that shit on private! But yeah I do! For artists that are in there.

-Does music from Jamaica influence your creative process for making beats? To be honest, not really. In a couple of my beats which are heavily dancehall influenced but I mostly make straight trap with a melodic, emotional atmosphere.

-How’d you become Yung Bans’ official producer? Craziest moment of my life, I swear. I’m just one of them tho, there’s others like my brother Sad Balmain, Chris Surreal, etc. One day, like 6 months before I got my first song with him “Fire”, I sent him that beat. I’d dm him everyday and got no response, then heard he was locked up. Soon as he was out, about a week later, I just got a text from my gang, shoutout arp gang, saying aye that’s your tag, and I was like naw forreal? Went and checked to see it was and I legit was smiling deadass for a hour *laughs* I was having the worst day too, this lil bitch made me spill my food earlier.

-How much do you charge for beats? (Rates) Well, for a lease $50 and exclusives start at $250. Prices will be increased very soon to higher though! Shoutout my manager, Lil Jay So Icy, he shootin for Trippie Redd right now, he said best I increase from now and that’s the deal!

-What’s your favorite placement? Man, Yung Bans the biggest but on a favorite, Mikey100K, we got a song called Feels and man, that shit a hit. I also love Running In Place by Bans, produced by BasedTJ and I.

-Why do artists from Chicago influence you? Man, they the reason I was making beats. I used to make em dark drill Chief Keef, Fredo Santana type beats, Rest in peace Big Boss SSR you dig, but they the reason I start it, you can still hear that type of vibe in some of my beats still.

-What does TM88 do differently that you like? Man that nigga too crazy, he got a whole different sound bro and he mad melodic to me. That nigga followed me last month on Twitter.

-What do people need to know about you? Man, I’m a young ass nigga and I’m gonna really boss up on all them people that doubted me very soon. Hide your bitches too nigga cause we taking everything!

-What should upcoming producers know about the music industry? This music industry is fucked. FUCKED. They full of snakes, that’s why hella artists leaving and protesting against. Us producers as well, we don’t get respect for shit either, TM88 ain’t get paid for XO Tour Life, which is a major hit, platinum. Best believe.

What are you allowed to announce for 2018? Well, me and Mikey got hella shit on the way, expect me and Bans to hopefully have a tape this year. Working with your favorite artists right now! I will probably be attending Full Sail University for music in September maybe too.

What is the best site to sell beats on? Beatstars all the way! I used to not fuck with them but that pro page 2.0, naw forreal!

Do you have any shout outs? Yeah, shoutout my mom and dad, my brother, the whole of SR Gang, that’s blood. Arp Gang and lastly but not least, my biggest supporter, my girl. I can’t say her name cause I don’t know if she gonna trip.

Interview + 6 beats with SkynnyDoubleY

As my site grows, my instagram is growing as well. I am currently at 1250+ followers, not crazy numbers I know, but a good amount of my followers and non followers who like my pics are people that even if I don’t know who they are they definitely meet the criteria for people I would interview. So whenever I post something and I get a bunch of likes (50+) I look to see whose liking my stuff. Every now and then like I said I see someones name and then check out their page and they are a producer or graphic designer or manager that I would want to interview, and that’s how I came across SkynnyDoubleY.

What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? The dopest thing to happen is getting super humbling messages from people I’ve never met telling me I inspire them . I’m like really ?? I’m glad I get to help so many people . I mean it sounds corny but it’s true .

What is the best platform for selling your beats? why? It’s a mixture of things I can’t say one works better than the other .  Using beatstars mixed with releasing consistent content on YouTube and social  has been key

Whats your process for making a beat?  I keep it simple I never really plan it out . I kind of just find a melody playing around on the keyboard or I use a sample or loop find the key of it and play around it . Add the drums . Level everything the way I like it and bounce it into my folder . It’s all about sound selection and and having super good drums and percussion that make you stand out .

What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use? FL gang for life . I started making beats in Logic years ago because that’s what I mixed on . Then tried FL like 10 different times and on the 11th time my boy showed me and I got it !

What are your plans for 2018? Releasing a beat everyday on my site and YouTube and rebuilding a catalog .. I had all my gear stolen when I was locked up most of 2017 … crazy long story but yeah rebuilding and going hard !

Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise) Idk man things change so fast you never know . It gets weirder every year . It’s more an expression of who you are than the music itself to be honest . I just feel a lot of producers are going to be coming up as artists too.

Do you have other income streams besides producing? If so,  what are they? Nope this is all I do everyday 15 hrs a day

Do you receive royalties from any of your beats? Can you give an example with actual numbers? I can’t I don’t keep up with it tbh

Interview w/ DAY SIX BEATS

Major credits? (artist/song)
Right now I don’t have any credits that would be considered major. I have worked with some of the biggest artists in my country, but that’s a relatively small scene even though it seems to be growing very fast. But I actually got a heads up from 88Glam’s producer that they’re working on a beat by me & Yung Dza. I don’t wanna spoil it though so we’ll just have to wait and see.
The “biggest” song I produced is by Yzomandias (Logic) called Kawasaki which has over 6 million hits.
How old are you?  I’m 20 years old.
Anything funny or crazy ever happen in this game we call rap?  Not particularly. Only thing I can think of would be the way I got my first ever placement. Literally got it just because my friend’s laptop didn’t work one day. He produced a song on this album and the rapper needed some changes done to it so he hit me up if I could do it instead and somehow I ended up on the album too.
Where are you from?  I’m from Prague (Czech Republic). Born & raised.
How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it?  I’ve been producing for like 3 years. I got into it when I was 17. I was always a huge fan of the music behind all these rap records. When I found out how to make the music on my own I just fell in love with it.
What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Probably seeing people going ape shit to records I produced during live shows. That’s always an amazing feeling. Also making a ton of money (relatively) from online sales in a month was a huge thing for me.
Who are your biggest influences?   Other than my friends & family? Back when I first started I was really into Cardiak and Jahlil beats etc. Nowadays I really fuck with Southside, Murda, Metro…
Want to give any shoutouts? Shout out to y’all for doing this interview with me!
What is something about you people would be surprised to know? Being from Czech Republic is surprising to everyone. I’m pretty sure a lot of people couldn’t point it out on a map. Also the fact I used to play flute.
Whats your process for making a beat? I always start with the melody or flip a dope sample first. Then I do the drums in no particular order.
What do your beats normally cost? Depends on the beat & the artist. I do leases like a lot of people but exclusives could go from like $400 to like $1500.
Any stories on how you got some of your placements?  The one I said earlier about how my friend’s laptop didn’t work. I also got one when my other friend tagged me in a tweet by a rapper asking for beats. I would’ve never seen it if he hadn’t.
What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use?  I make beats on FL Studio 12. I’ve tried Reason and Ableton when I first started but FL is just perfect for me. Only hardware I really use is a small Akai midi keyboard.
How many leases or beats do you think you sold in 2017? I don’t really keep track that much but I guess a couple hundred for sure.
What are your plans for 2018? Getting my first major placement, getting more sales online. Maybe get in shape cause sitting around making beats isn’t exactly healthy for you.
Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise)  Lil Pump, Lil Skies, 6ix9ine, Rich The Kid… I can see all of them having a great 2018. Producer wise I don’t know.
