Interview with Gina Gunz

I found out about Gina Gunz because of her appearance in the video below, “When you hit the blunt 4” by 8JTV. Turns out she’s more than an instagram comedian, she’s a jack of all trades. I reached out to her and she was more than happy to do an interview!

Find out more about her by reading the interview below;

Who is Gina Gunz?

I am an artist in every essence of the word, but music is my first passion. I am a songstress and a songwriter. I have collaborated with many talented artists, super producers and musicians and I am currently performing in the greatest venues in New York City.

What is the inspiration behind your name?

When I was 18, I moved to New York. I had to learn how to grind, work hard and travel in a new city away from my immediate family. Gina Gunz is my altered ego because it is whom I became in order to accelerate in my life and my career.

Where are you from? I was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico and I was raised in south Florida.

I see on your ig you say you are a recording artist / songwriter/ and content creator.  what do you mean by content creator? I have a YouTube channel and I create videos about beauty, relationships, friendships and comedy stuff I try to be as relatable as I can to allow viewers to see another side of me.

How would you describe the music you make?

I think they call it contemporary r&b nowadays. It’s a blend of soul and pop music.

What’s the story behind the When You Hit The Blunt 4 video? Did the homies from 8JTVComedy reach out to you? were you already cool with them?

I’ve actually known the boys for a few years now, and I’ve worked with them in several other videos.

What social media platform has been the best for pushing out your content? Facebook, twitter, ig, why?

Instagram, Facebook, and Snap Chat have definitely been the best platforms to put out content and engage with current fans as well as gaining new ones. People like visuals and they also like to be intimate with people they follow that’s why these platforms are so effective for me.

Who are your biggest influences?

I love Sade, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, La India, Christina Aguilera are just some.

What is the craziest thing to happen so far since you started getting attention for your work?

The craziest thing would be the opportunities that continue to come. When one doors closes another one opens and the process is scary beautiful.

What is something about you people would be surprised to know?

I use to go by Gina Kiara and when I turned 18 I changed it to Gina Gunz.

What is one food, that you hate, that you could live without ever having again?

I think raw sushi is pretty gross and I’m happy without it 🙂

What are your plans for 2018?

I plan to release my EP, and tour around the country. Stay tuned!
