Interview with the often overbooked, jack of all trades, Nephew Luchiani aka NephewOnDaTrack

NephewOnDaTrack is an interesting character! He wouldn’t stay out of my DM’s and kept messaging me some of his beats and eventually I was just like yeah homie whats good. I checked out his beats, listened to his story a little bit, and decided to drop an interview with him. Scroll down to find out more about the homie.

How did you come up with your moniker?  I use to go by the name Nephew Da Prince i been making music since i was 11 so most ppl remember me as that but i felt i out grew that and said to myself “the prince of what?” as a joke lol I’m a huge fan of mobster movies and the real deal mobsters and how they operated not there activities but more so there morals and boss like mentality etc. so being from new york city my self and loving  Italian  food one day i came up with Luchiani and it sounded good but i kept the Nephew because i mean why not, that’s my name since young. so now i go by Nephew luchiani, (lil luchiani) aka NephewOnDaTrack (prod. name)

What jobs have you had before this rap shit? The only real jobs I’ve had were restaurant jobs where i would wash dishes/ deliver food and even one restaurant i started to be a chef but from the beginning i knew they were dead end jobs and i was just wasting my time but i never quit, i would jus stop caring, id show up late like so? stop doing certain things and not really care after a while cuz i wanted to get fired never wanted to quit and walk out even thou i should of.

How old are you? 24yrs old

Anything funny or crazy ever happen in this game we call rap? lol uh I’ve heard a couple ppl had sex to my music around 2009 i came out with a remix of birthday sex, called Sum Neck and stories would rotate around and id hear of it

Where are you from? I Was born in the Bronx, but moved to Harlem when i was 11
I just say new York city, cause I be everywhere.

How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it? Since 11 years old, i remember listening to knuck if you buck and i was so obsessed with that beat i had to figure out how to make some that’s where i met FL studio and i never looked back but i def was always interested in music since younger singing, piano lessons etc. and even just seeing pics of dr dre near a mixing board alone would inspire me

What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Speaking to Soulja boy on the phone way b4 he blow up, Chief Keef Reached out to me for beats in 2011, or 12 but i thought the page was fake so I missed out and told him to SM* smh lol I just wasn’t educated on twitter and how to use it yet I guess

Who are your biggest influences? list too long, but ill start with Lil Jon, Soulja Boy, 50 cent, Dr Dre Now? The Migos, Lil Peep, Southside, Im Also a huge Young Thug Fan LondonOnDaTrack ect. just any genius music that catches me

Want to give any shoutouts? s.o to my manager, my mentor(s) and the very bit of friends I got, I don’t gotta name any of these people because they will know who they are and there place with me

i appreciate them so much they always push me when i don’t push myself, I’m honestly supposed to be blown up already as they say but at the same time. Things take time and tend to unfold as they should.

What is something about you people would be surprised to know? I love video games but never play them lol, I know that makes no sense but as I have no time and iIm trying to reach goals and help other ppl  I can’t play, Nor have systems to play, im a walking studio literally. Video games are for when you do have the time, but I would love to play them to unwind my mind, this rap game is stressful AF

Whats your process for making a beat? nun I dead just make em, usually i smoking blunt after blunt and etc. but i smoke regardless if im Makin beats or not lol

i literally jus open up FL  and make them lol there’s no inspiration  really if anything I inspire myself in between I guess you can say

What do your beats normally cost? 40 a lease and 400 and up for exclusives, for now that is, I plan  To reach 1k, 2k, 5k…etc.Very Soon

What is the most you have made from one beat? I think 800? on YouTube AdSense, over the time thou I’ve made a lot of money on beats I just never re invested in myself as I was supposed to or saving anything.

Any stories on how you got some of your placements? I have a story about [1738], Fetty Wap & Monte, but being that the song is on standby and i don’t know what’s going on with it so far I don’t want to speak on it to much or ruin something. Ima leave that for another time.

What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use? I Use FL for beats, Mixcraft to record and mix and Pro tools as well, but since I’m at home and have a home studio I use FL n Mixcraft the most, and pro tools when I’m in the real right studios the reason I use those  programs primarily is because i move super-fast on FL and Mixcraft, i still use version 4.1 of Mixcraft because I’m just so use to it and no one has any complaints so I don’t really care to switch but one day ill b fully only FL and Pro Tools.

How many leases or beats do you think you sold in 2017? According to my PayPal not so much maybe 40? a weak 40-50ish , because i was figure in out what’s next and how to re brand myself and etc. I really want to sell more beats, Im starting to leave engineering alone slowly

What are your plans for 2018? Get Rich Or Die Trying, fr fr

Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise) Me, and i honestly don’t know and can’t tell, took me a second, umm Lil Tracy, Lil Mosey, Smooky Megreliaa for sure, I’ve worked with him once before as well I spot talent and i try to get to know them personally to build a relationship but things move so fast there’s no time just got to let the music talk

Do you receive royalties from any of your beats? Can you give an example with actual numbers? Na, I don’t at the moment I’m getting my paperwork and publishing etc. figured out because I didn’t know witch route or name I was gonna stay with/use because I def can, only time I seen money was trough YouTube and that’s not enough

What does YouTube monetization look like for you can you give number examples? I’ve gotten $800 in 2016 for 300k views (video was from 2012).
They paid me my missing royalties they were trying to track me down and pay me and did.

PS. This year I’m focused on getting an international placement, touring, shows
selling beats and helping ppl with their sound, I want to leave studio time in the past as it helped me but it’s also messing up my time for other opportunity’s that await. People know me more as a engineer locally then anything else and I want to get back to that global feeling where I had ppl in other countries and states listening  to me
