Mr. Lee is not a beatmaker. He’s a real hip hop / rap producer who has spent 20+ years in the game producing beats and amassed a diverse catalog that would make even the top producers in the game jealous. Seriously! In his 20 years in the game, Mr. Lee has been an in house producer for Rap A Lot records, and outside of that produced for everyone from Machine Gun Kelly to Tupac. Scroll down to check out some of the hits he has produced and to find out more about this veteran producer.

Anything funny or crazy ever happen in this game we call rap?
- I was working on the Last Of A Dying Breed with Scarface. He would play jokes all the time. I was crazy hungry one day. I ordered some wings. Soon as I got my shit and opened it up. This rotten muthafuka Face slapped my shit out my hand. Wings flying all over the place lol!
- You used to get these calls from Pimp C at 3am in the morning. We would always talk about music and he would rap song ideas over the phone. That was the good days.
Where are you from? Pineville Louisiana
How long have you been producing? Why/How did you get into it? I’ve been producing 22 years. I was always into music as a kid. I was in a rap group in the early 90’s which increased my desire to be a music producer.
What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Being able to be a part of Rap A Lot and being able to come right off the street and working with the great Scarface.
Who are your biggest influences? N.O. Joe ,Mike Dean ,Dr. Dre ,Daz ,Tone Capone
Want to give any shoutouts? To my crew at Xmg Studios and the Platinum Music Complex my homie Bdo, Nipsey Hussle, And my bro Rayface.
What is something about you people would be surprised to know? I used to be a church musician. I’ve played the piano for churches since the age of 9.
Whats your process for making a beat? It’s really no special process. It depends on the vibe I’m trying to create with the artist. At any given time I can be inspired by any sound or sample.
What do your beats normally cost? 5-10k
There is a huge market online for selling beats, and youtube brings in a good revenue for beatmakers with high views. Do you do any of that even though you are established? Please explain why? I don’t do sales for beats online. I’m not a “ beatmaker” I’m a producer. I like to be in the studio with the artist.
What is the most you have made from one beat? 25k
Any stories on how you got some of your placements? I was blessed to start in the industry when I started. Most of my placements came from vibing and building with the artist in the studio. Which built my catalog and put me in demand all over the country. The advantage was being a in house producer with Rap A Lot
What Hardware or software do you use? is there any reason why you like to particularly use what you use? I use logic and the Mpc Studio. I’ve been on logic for over 10 years. And I started with the mpc in the 90’s. There’s a groove that the mpc has that is like non other and logic has really dope sounds and the quantizing is very close to the mpc.
What are your plans for 2018? I just opened a studio in Dallas and I’m opening Xmg School of Music and Business in April.
Do you receive royalties from any of your beats? Can you give example(s) with actual numbers? I get royalties on all of my music for the last 21 years.
Do you have other income streams besides producing? If so, what are they?
- Music Studios
