Maybe you already decided you want to buy Fl Studio but you are not sure if you should get FL Studio 11, FL Studio 12 , or wait until they release the new version “Fl Studio 20” that is supposedly on its way in 2018. Or maybe you have Fl Studio 11 or 12 and you want to upgrade to the next version. This post is for you then!
I would just like to add my two cents of information I have learned after interviewing 60+ successful producers and counting.
Here is what I have found out, the majority of beat makers might be using Fl Studio but they aren’t all using the same version. The main reason being that learning changes can be time consuming for a producer to switch to a newer version which can cut down on creative time making product. Another reason is that sometimes the newer version isn’t that different or doesn’t have any update that you particularly need.

The first version of FL Studio 11 was released in April 2013, and then the first version of Fl Studio 12 was released in April 2015. It’s now January 2018, and at this point FL Studio 11 is over 4.5 years old and Fl Studio 12 is over 2.5 years old. In most cases software that is that old would be considered ancient, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for this one. A good amount of producers are still using Fl Studio 11 and have no plants to stop. In fact in the interview I just dropped today with Mazza the co producer of “Man’s Not Hot” and many other popular grime tracks, he states “If I know I can push the same standard of music on the version I’m use to why bother upgrading?” Then there are also other producers who only recently switched to Fl Studio 12 (see pics below) and for other producers Fl Studio 12 is the only version they know because they have been producing for less than 3 years.
So here’s what I say, if you have access to FL Studio 11 just use that. If you are using FL Studio 12 then keep perfecting your skills on there. But if you are debating on whether to wait until they eventually release Fl Studio 20, I wouldn’t wait, just get Fl Studio 11 or 12 today!
