Interview + 4 beats with Hip Hop Producer Gustav Strazdins

Major Credits?
Since I have only been selling beats for about a year now, my biggest credit is Tyga – Forever On Fire. He used my Drake type beat – On Da Low which I leased to his and Desiigners manager Steven Victor.
How old are you? Im 25 now.
Where are you from?  Im from Europe – small country named Latvia.
What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Some of my beats have been promoted by big Youtubers and I didnt know that till the moment I started reading comments under my beats.
How long have you been producing? I have been producing since 2012. Started with sampled beats, later switched to original (of scratch) beats. Done that for about 2 years and ocasionally sold some beats for about 40$ – 80$. After that I turned to EDM, Future Trap, House music. Basically making music for crowds and also played them for couple of times. At the end of 2016 I switched back to producing beats but this time seriously – created account on Beatstars and made my website for selling beats.
Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are Eminem and Dr. Dre. I started listening to Hip-Hop and making beats because of them. Later influences – Sam Gellaitry, Oshi, Medasin, Flume etc.
Want to give any shoutouts?
I wan to give shout out to Decap Music because Im using his drum kits mostly all the time – they really knock! And shout out to my brother John Savage Music – we started this beat selling business together.
What is something about you people would be surprised to know?
People would be surprised to know that I was a big football fan and player till 18 years of age. Till that age I have attended local choir. And that I have 6 years experience of doing calisthenics. Recently I have started to go to gym. Also in late November 2017 I started to invest in cryptocurrencies. I have been digging deep in tho that so I think I will be millionaire from that this year!
Whats your process for making a beat? My beat process is really simple – I start with melody and then I add baseline or drums. It depends. Also I like to search for cool sounds, samples and vocals. Normally I spend about 2 – 4 hours on a beat I think.
What do your beats normally cost? My beats cost from 20$ for a mp3 lease to 170$ for Unlimited lease. For every beat there is also a chance to offer money for Exclusives Rights. Usually I expect 400$ – 1000$ per beat.
What is the most you have made from one beat? If Im correct I have made a couple of thousands from several beats.
Do you use Hardware or software? I mostly use software on my laptop. I have attached sub, monitors, audio interface and keys.
Do you receive royalties from any of your beats? At the moment I dont receive any royalties, only disputing all the claims on my Youtube beats lol.
How many leases or beats do you think you sold in 2017? I would say hundreds and hundreds of leases.
Can you give an example of some actual youtube earnings or royalties you have received from one of your productions? I make earnings from Youtube all the time. The sum varies but it is not extreme. Mostly I make money from selling leases.
What are your plans for 2018?  My plans for 2018 is to sell more beats, make more money, stay without job so I can work on my music, become millionaire from crypto investments and get my car license.
Who do you think will part of the new wave in 2018? (producer wise and rapper wise)
Ouh Im not that deep into new rappers or producers – I ocasionally listen to other stuff. I mainly work on my own because beats dont need to be super complicated for rappers. Its all about vibes and matching type
