“Hood Santa” Interview + 4 beats with Hip Hop Producer and Graphic Designer Tre On The Beat

Tre On The Beat is a producer I found because he is behind such underground hits as:

my personal favorite track of his being “Hood Santa” a infectious sleeper hit.

Obviously I had to see if I could do an interview with him and luckily I was!
Below is the interview plus some beats he still has available for sale.
Major Credits? DDG, Famous Dex, Tee Grizzley, Jay Da Youngan, FMB DZ, Yung Tory, etc.
How old are you? I turned 20 years old not too long ago.
Where are you from? I was born Detroit, Michigan but I moved to Pontiac, Michigan in 2012.
How long have you been producing? I’ve been producing for 4-5 years. After I seen Lex Luger’s “Secret Formula” video on YouTube in 2012, I immediately downloaded FL Studio and started using it. Shortly after that I sold my first exclusive beat on SoundCloud for $15.
What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product? Definitely networking with other producers/artists and inspiring people to produce and make beats.
Who are your biggest influences? Lex Luger, Metro Boomin, 808 Mafia, Pierre Bourne and any producers that I work with.
Want to give any shoutouts? Shoutout to anyone that supports me, DDG, JuloOnTheTrack, and TrapALot Muzik. Also shout out to Fly Way, we’re a group of young producers that you will hear more about in 2018. illWill Beatz, Yung Tago, Yung Lando, TnT XD, Nique Buzzin, BearMakeHits, and Nebula Beatz.
What is something about you people would be surprised to know? I make graphics too, you can check out some on my Instagram and my portfolio @ graphicsbytre.carbonmade.com
Whats your process for making a beat? If I don’t have an idea for a beat, usually I play chords on the midi keyboard until I come up with something. It can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours for me to complete a beat and mix it. Sometimes I know exactly what sounds to add and sometimes I get stuck and end up trashing the beat but it’s always a different process.
What do your beats normally cost? Normally I charge $30 for a MP3 lease, $50 for a WAV lease, and $80 for a Trackout lease. My exclusive prices vary but I can work with most budgets if you shoot me an email.
What is the most you have made from one beat? The most I sold a beat for is $500. I didn’t start selling a lot of beats until the beginning of 2017 but my sales have been picking up lately.
Any story or stories on how you secured some of your placements? Most of them are from networking with other producers and finding emails to send beats to on Twtitter. The first song I produced that hit a million views is Matti Baybee – Get A Life. I found his email on Twitter and sent him some beats and he hit me back up to work. Most of the other placements are just from networking and collabing with other producers.
Do you use Hardware or software? I produce in FL Studio. I also got some Yamaha HS5’s, an Alesis Midi keyboard and M-Audio audio interface.
How many leases or beats, do you think you have sold in your career? It’s hard to say, I’ve sold so many leases since I started producing. I sell more and more each year though.
what are your plans for 2018? In 2018 I plan on getting more placements, selling more beats, and securing the bag.
Do you receive royalties for any of your beats? and also this is something that alot of younger producers don’t know to much about so if you can share any insights on royalties, that would be highly appreciated. It’s something I’m learning about right now so I can’t give a lot of insight but make sure you’re a Producer make sure you’re registered with BMI or ASCAP. Make sure your paperwork is good for any song that you produce that’s getting plays/sales/etc. The last thing you want is to produce a hit and you’re not getting any credit at all.
