How old are you?
I am 25 years old.
Where are you from?
I was born in Northern California, near Sacramento, but I grew up in Duluth, Minnesota.
How long have you been producing?
I started producing in 2009 when I was in my senior year of high school. I was using Sony ACID and just getting used to the idea of making music on a computer. I moved over to Ableton in 2010, and I started making beats specifically with the intent of selling them online sometime late 2010 – early 2011.
What’s the dopest thing to happen to you since you started making music and releasing product?
Being able to connect with people literally across the globe has probably been the coolest thing to happen. I have regular customers that purchase from Japan, Spain, England, Russia, France and many other places. It’s crazy! I’m also part of a collective called Internet Money, which was founded by Taz Taylor. Taz is from Florida, along with a couple of other IM members. There are some members in the south, the west, the north, etc. It’s crazy how you can connect with people and create bonds just by working together over the internet.
Who are your biggest influences?
J Dilla was the producer that got me into producing and frankly got me into rap music period. I heard a random Dilla beat on an Adult Swim bump one night and I had to find out who made it. Just hearing the creativity and musicality of his music helped me develop a new-found appreciation for rap music. Currently I find a lot of inspiration in all different formats of music, but in terms of producers I’d have to say Southside, Metro Boomin, Sonny Digital, etc. As well as my brothers in Internet Money. We all keep each other motivated and wanting to work harder and strive for more.
Want to give any shoutouts?
Shoutout to my brother Pharaoh Vice, as well as everyone in Internet Money. Taz, Nick Mira, DTHitz, Countach, KC Supreme, Brackz, Ace Royal, Roy Major, LeauxFi, JR, JPlat, PLVYHAUS, Josh Petruccio, JoLz & E-Trou. Also shoutout to Dez Wright and RicandThadeus. We’re all family.
What is something about you people would be surprised to know?
My dad is a drummer and allowed me to play drums at a very young age, which led to me starting to learn bass / guitar / piano etc. But what really got me into music production was Adult Swim bumps and video games haha. Hearing that J Dilla bump late one night and being exposed to different kinds of music thanks to Tony Hawk & GTA was what really motivated me to look into how to make music.
What do your beats normally cost?
I have a few different leasing options, the cheapest being the Standard MP3 lease for $30. Lease prices go all the way up to $300 depending on what you’re looking for. I also offer exclusive rights but the pricing for exclusives vary for each beat.
Who are the favorite artists you have produced for?
This dude Rory Fresco is one to look out for man. Taz & I produced a track for him called Involved. Rory killed it on that one. We’ll have some more music coming out with Rory in the near future so be on the lookout for that.
Hardware or software? I’ve always used software for my productions but I would love to (at some point) pick up some hardware and learn that side of the field. It’s always been interesting to me.
How many leases or beats, do you think you have sold in your career?
Honestly I wouldn’t even be able to tell you! I’ve been doing this full time since late 2013 and every year has been better than the last. All I can say is that I’m thankful for where I’m at in life right now and the direction I’m headed in. For that I have to thank my family and friends for being supportive over the years, and each and every person that has purchased a beat from me, or even follow me on social media. i wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for all of you! You put a roof over my head and food on my family’s table.
